Psychotherapy Support for Emotional, Relational, and Life Challenges

Psychotherapy offers a space to better understand what you are experiencing, how it is affecting your life, and what may help you move forward.

I work with people facing anxiety, stress, relationship concerns, family challenges, life transitions, and the emotional impact of health or medical issues.

When Therapy May Be Helpful

There are many reasons to seek support through therapy - dealing with emotionally or physically painful events in our lives, understanding patterns that keep us stuck, navigating relationships or transitions in our lives, and others. My approach in psychotherapy is based on establishing a safe, collaborative, relational base from which to understand the difficulties you are facing.

My training and experience that informs this approach is rooted in the relational psychodynamic model of Control-Mastery Theory and influenced by training in models such as Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy, mindfulness meditation and other mind-body practices, and Somatic Experiencing (I’m not a trained practitioner, but I have a strong appreciation for this approach). I enjoy working with adults, teens, parents, and children who are dealing with emotional, relational, and health-related challenges.

Areas of Expertise

My background as a physician for more than 25 years and a psychotherapist for more than 10 years provide a unique skillset for a range of problems. While I can and do prescribe psychoactive medications, it is not the primary focus of my work.

Common reasons people reach out include:

  • Excessive stress, worry, or anxiety

  • Relationship concerns or communication challenges

  • Chronic illness, pain, medical stress, or complex health concerns

  • Life transitions, or major decisions

  • Parenting challenges

  • Child behavior concerns, emotional regulation, anxiety, or adjustment

  • Patterns that feel hard to understand or change

Psychotherapy for Adults, Teens, Children, and Families

David works with people across different stages of life. Each person and family brings a different set of needs, goals, and circumstances into therapy.

Adults

Therapy can support adults navigating stress, anxiety, relationships, parenting, work concerns, life transitions, grief, or health-related emotional challenges.

Teens

Teen therapy may help with emotional stress, health-related emotional challenges, school pressure, family conflict, anxiety, social concerns, identity questions, or difficulty managing change.

Children

Therapy for children may focus on emotional regulation, behavior concerns, anxiety, adjustment to life events, or challenges within the family system.

Parents

Parent support can help improve communication, understand sources of conflict, understand a child’s needs, work through conflict, and respond to shared stress with more clarity.

A Thoughtful, Whole-Person Approach to Therapy

I am both a licensed psychotherapist and licensed physician.

My work is shaped by a whole-person view of care. I recognize that emotional well-being, physical health, relationships, family context, coping skills, and life circumstances are often connected.

This perspective grew out of my background in primary care pediatrics, integrative medicine, chronic pain care, and psychotherapy. In therapy, I bring these experiences together to support people navigating concerns that do not always fit neatly into one category.

My approach is collaborative and grounded in careful listening. Care is guided by each person’s goals, needs, preferences, and life context.
